noritake china

Just to be clear from the outset, Noritake China does not emanate from anywhere in China at all. The Noritake brand is actually Japanese in origin. The first noritake china made its way into the United States in the late 1800′s. The founding company was created in 1876 and agreat deal of imports to the US were occuring by the early 1900′s.

The Noritake company was formed from an earlier company, called Morimura Brothers, who had begun sourcing fine china, and other decorative products from within the factories around Nagoya in Japan. By 1904, however, Morimura decided to take more control over design and quality of the finished products. Morimura set up in small village called Noritake just outside of Nagoya. Therest of course is history. The Noritake brand soon became synonymous with fine ceramics and went on to become a household name in the western world.

The primary market for Noritake was the United States and for almost 100 years since that first plate left the factory, Noritake has been the standard in the industry.  Today Noritake china and Noritake crystal are manufactured in factories all around the globe. The popularity of the china, and its identification with the little village that was Noritake was so widespread and valued that the company officially changed its name to Noritake Company in 1981.

The company and its brand still today remain the pre eminent supplier of fine ceramics throughout the world.
