Why does China have such a large population in comparison to others?
You always hear about how China is always so over-populated and stuff, but I don’t understand why that is. I mean, there are even bigger countries like Canada and Russia, both of which have smaller populations than China.
Can anyone explain this to me?
its a big country, and the industry there is superior. Technology is magnificent, excellent.
China is starting to defeat United States economically. But, thats pretty much why population is so big.
the chinese have a lot of penises
Try looking at cartograph.
China has a higher population density, because the country is transitioning from the Global South, to the Global North. The people there are having my children, so they can support the elders when they become adults. Canada has less people because it is already in the Global North and has a good sustainable economy, so there is no need to have a high population for the children to take care of the elders when they become adults.
Most familys want a boy to carrie on the name but they keep trying till they get it right.
China is one of the largest nations on earth in square miles. I’m sure that over the centuries there are lots of people that covered all that land and they had lots of kids to help with the farm or whatever industry….and it spiraled out of control. Now they can only have one kid in most areas…..
China isn’t overpopulated, the cities are but they have a 1:1 ratio of land to people, which is semi sustainable.
China historically has had an incredible number of wars all of which were hugely bloody and killed 1000s Also along with a famine every other year in different provinces and of varying severity. More children in a rural setting means more conscripts and more people to work the land.
More people = expendable, the building of the great wall the first mud pack version killed millions, 1500 years later they did it again killing even more, a few centuries later they built the great canal killing even more people.
This is why people had lots of children in the past.
The population of China exploded from 400million to 1.4bn by 2009 due to one biggie.
The USSR China split, Mao Zhedong was peeved at Stalin for not providing FULL mig support over Korea which would have won the war. Stalin only gave him support above the Yalu river. Mao had been loaned $400,000 dollars (worth about 70bn today) by the USSR for development purposes. When Stalin died Kruschev didn’t like Mao at all and they had an ideological split.
The USSR demanded its money back and millions were starved to death as loans were repaid with grain. Along with the great leap forward disasters.
It came to a head in the 1960s when the USSR and China relations REALLY took a turn for the worse when the USSR and China nearly went into all out war. In 1960s the USSR was the most powerful army on earth even more powerful than the USA in conventional warfare.
China’s military was virtually in the stone age with basic rifles and artillery vs tanks and combined arms used by all forces of the world learnt in WWII. China so incredibly outgunned by the USSR had one choice to fight against the USSR nuclear weapons as a last resort and also Infantry wave attacks, which had worked in 1951 in Korea. Thus the population was encouraged to breed to provide cannon fodder against the USSR. In Korea this was a horrendous tactic but at incredible cost to lives sometimes worked. 20-40 Chinese for 1 UN soldier is an oft quoted figure for Korea
Stalin himself once said quantity has a quality all of its own.
The cold war even continued to 1979 when China had a war with Vietnam, the USSR supplied direct satellite feeds and weapons to the Vietnamese causing a humiliating defeat of the PLA as they still hadn’t used combined arms warfare by this time.
